Name meaning : Said to be named after a landholder's (R B Dawson) property. There are several location in England that use the name and there it means "a clearing overgrown with bent-grass".
Notes : 75.5m platform on the Down side as built, later reduced to 31.6m. Yards had sheep and cattle races and a 5 tonne crane and an Up side siding which opened on 19th September 1919 and closed on 28th June 1975 (two days before the station). Original layout had a Down side loop siding with the original station some 70 metres Down from the siding.
