Type : Station
Line : Apsley Branch
Distance from Brighton Junction : 018.507km
Opened : October 1922 as Orfield, renamed Hawfield in 1938
Closed : 29 September 1947
Status : Closed
Name meaning : Unknown
Notes : The station was a request stop only and was provided with a flag box to enable prospective passengers to stop a train as required for boarding.
The location had a platform with a shelter on the Down side of the line and a Down loop siding (added in 1925). The siding could also be utilised as a passing loop if required.
Hawfield had a short dead end spur at the southern (Brighton) end of the loop, it was noted in 1930 and again in 1947.
There is very little in the primary sources regarding this very isolated location, likely it was little more than a stop to service nearby properties although it was designated as a station.
