Name meaning : Construction name was Black Flat, the town is called George Town and no mountain of the name exists nearby
Notes : The 76.2 metre long platform contained a timber station building with ladies and general waiting rooms and a store and was located on the Up side. A goods shed and 5 tonne yard crane were provided. 7/2/1914 stockyards erected. 23/10/1985 station demolished and platform reduced to 25 metres (later removed). Mt George has an 804 metre crossing loop.

Mount George Station had a fairly sizeable yard - remains of two extra tracks still exist. The station opened in 1913 and closed in 1975. The yards were lifted and remaining buildings demolished.

The "washpool" rail bridge over the Manning river at km.340 between Mt.George and Bundook as viewed from NT-26, "Grafton XPT", 24-9-1994. Note the "Tulloch" builders plate on R.H. beam of bridge. The small caravan at left was accomodation for the bridge painters who never finished the job completely. (Graeme Kirkby)

Claude Nolan:

I worked at Mt. George 1965 -1968. During that time Tom Carter, John Ebzery, Jack Dyksterhouse, Barry Drew were also there and another one Barry Dowsett. During that time the Railway had a garden competition and we put a call out to the people in the town and they brought pot plants down along the platform and we got a special prize.
