Name meaning : After the nature of the location, the station is in a valley at the foot of a hill
Notes : Site has shifted 67.6m from original position. The rebuilt platform in 1930 was 73.1 metres and was on the Up side. It was later (by 1961 it had been reduced to 30.1 metres). Existing (new) station is similar to the other short platforms on the Hunter end of the line. Station building was a B1 type. Station opened with a Down side loop siding, this was closed 28/1/1941.

Hilldale opened in 1911 then closed in 1975. In 1984 the original station building (shown here) was demolished and rebuilt - re-opening shortly after as a small platform.
