The three railway houses at Wauchope (in Wallace Street opposite the station). These were constructed at the same time as the station (in 1915). Left - Asst Station Master, middle - Station Master, right - railway boarding house. My father purchased the (then long abandoned) boarding house in 1972, we lived there until 1981. It had nine bedrooms for semi-permanent occupancy and one (extreme right, front of house) that was unusual in that it had no access to the rest of the house internally. One old-timer recounted that in the early days that room was used for crew that arrived very late in the night and had to depart early so it was always "open". When we moved in there were two ancient wall phones still in the house - one was connected to the town exchange (and therefore a "normal" phone), the other used to be directly connected to the station itself.
