Wingham: The old (now gone) loading ramp which loaded a variety of products including sawdust, but worst of all, the stripped down bones from the local abattoirs which might have sat in the open wagon for a couple of days... or more, right alongside our SM's residence home! (Garry Woodward)

First train to Wingham

Wingham memory - back in the 70s my family moved from Taree to Wauchope and we used to visit friends at Wingham travelling by train (they lived opposite the station). I can recall one of the guys at Wingham (no idea who or what he did, only know he worked on the railway) telling us that one time many years back when he was alone at night at Wingham hearing a WOOSH! - looked outside and saw nothing. A few minutes later that sound came again - again, nothing outside. Third time lucky as he stayed outside - a brake van had come loose from a goods train that had gone through shortly before - Wingham is in a bit of a bowl and the loose van rolled back and forward until it lost momentum.
