One thing that hasn't changed is the relentless attempts by termites to eat the tank down. GMR does no maintenance or preservation of their assets (other than Lowanna station), but some people who have an interest in preserving the history do. Myself and others have been doing periodic termite control at Mole Creek Tank for 40 years.

Mole Creek Tank is arguably one of the most valuable railway infrastructure assets on the Glenreagh - Ulong Railway. That is from an historic view point, and also from an aesthetic view point.
Myself and another did some more termite control there today, and we are going to instal a termite bait station as a more permanent control. We do this because we value the Mole Creek Tank asset, which we see as belonging to the community as a whole rather than the legal owner of the line. The legal owner of the line does nothing to preserve this asset, so it is fortunate that others have taken it upon themselves to look after it.
