A used first class railway ticket from Sydney to Telegraph Point on the first train from Sydney to Kempsey on 3 December 1917. Used by Mrs E Wallace [1885-1970] (nee Lizzie Noakes) of Wauchope. A report in the Port Macquarie News on Saturday 8 December 1917 documents the event: '...At last we we have been granted general railway traffic to the city. On Wednesday of last week the sun rose in the same place, but no rain hampered its radiance, in fact the day was ideal. Very early some of the populace gathered on the station platform awaiting the train for Kempsey, which was fully loaded with sight-seers. At 11.20 a.m. a special from Wingham drew into the platform on which several hundreds of people were crowded. There were fourteen carriages, and every one was fully occupied, so we had to get on and stand wherever we could...Almost 2,300 passengers (according to official figures) were conveyed thence on two trains...'

Eungai to Kempsey ticket, a short trip by rail (31km) that would have been once common. The trip today is around 24 minutes by car as opposed to 27 or so by train, one of the rare stretches on the line where road and rail are fairly even these days.
