Name meaning : Aboriginal word for "place of the (non-returning) boomerang"
Notes : An unstaffed railway platform with a siding was provided and this was extended with a gantry crane in 1896. Down platform was 76.8 metres long and like other on the line was moved after a protest from locals (23.1 metres). 26/2/1918 - provision of a 385 metre interlocked loop. 13/4/1918 - station buildings removed and rebuilt and platform extended. 15/1/1927 - platform raised.

Burringbar closed 25 March, I986 as an Electric Train Staff and Crossing Station. From Weekly Notice 11 of 1986. Passenger facilities in place for Motorail which finished in February 1990. Not listed on the replacement XPT rail timetable although listed on the railway bus timetable.
